Deep in the backcountry of King's Canyon National Park, and miles from any trailhead, lie the basins at the head of the mighty Kern river. These basins are some of the most remote, rugged and pristine areas of the high Sierra. This particular evening, clearning storm clouds reflected orange and magenta sun rays across this basin, painting granite and water alike in a surreal alpen glow.
